We may earn a commission. That sentence appears on product pages because it is the fact. We do not hide it in a tooltip, and we do not label links with marketing jargon.
What we link to
Product links go to product detail pages only. We do not send you to a search results page, a category page, or a storefront home page and call it a recommendation. If we cannot confirm a product identifier, the href is marked as a placeholder and listed in our internal notes.
What we do not invent
We do not write made-up discounts, crossed-out list prices, review totals, or star averages. We do not copy listing copy. A pick has to survive without those props.
Editorial independence
A commission is not a consulting fee and it is not a placement fee. Brands do not pay for a sentence on this site. If a product leaves a guide, it is because the reason no longer holds or the listing is gone, not because a rate changed.
Some pages have no product links at all. About, privacy, and this disclosure are examples. You can use every guide as a checklist without clicking anything.
Other relationships
As of this writing, The Desk Edit does not take paid reviews, gifted units in exchange for coverage, or display ads. If that changes, this page will say so in the same tone as the rest of the site: short, specific, and dated in the copy when it matters.
